Nabyl Charania is a globally-seasoned serial entrepreneur who co-founded Rokk3r Labs, the world’s first ‘cobuilding’ platform to fund, launch and scale world-changing ideas. As Rokk3r Labs CEO he accelerated the cobuild model across multiple geographical regions and led the overall business which was responsible for establishing over 50 companies, enabling entrepreneurs realize their dreams, creating hundreds of jobs and generating a lasting impact in the regions Rokk3r Labs operated. He led the company’s transition to the public markets, the subsequent move to privatization, and the merger of Rokk3r Labs and its holdings into Rokk3r Inc, where he is Chairman of the Board. Nabyl is also leading the shift in Rokk3r’s strategy toward building, acquiring and integrating companies based on Rokk3r’s internal capabilities and experience, leveraging networks to build companies centered around social commerce, insurance, fintech and more, with technology as the underlying exponential growth layer. Under his leadership, Rokk3r has been named to Inc.’s Best Workplaces for 2020.

Nabyl is also Founding Partner and General Partner at Fuel Venture Capital, a $200M venture capital fund that provides smart capital and key resources to founders in sectors such as space, construction, extended reality, micromobility, and more. Fuel Venture Capital has invested in exponential companies such as TaxFyle, Bolt, Ubicquia, OhmniLabs and Soundtrack Your Brand, amongst others.

Previously, Nabyl has started and grown several technology ventures with successful exits, and developed and managed large-scale R&D and engineering teams. He continues to serve on private boards and is a Forbes Contributor. Nabyl earned a Bachelor of Mathematics degree from the University of Waterloo.

Nabyl is guided by his own personal Massive Transformative Purpose (MTP), which is to ‘create incorruptible prosperity and abundant ecosystems for all across the universe’. As such he is passionate about understanding the role exponential technologies like artificial intelligence, blockchain and robotics play in reshaping business, civil society and daily life.

As his MTP centers around the creation of abundant ecosystems, Nabyl draws inspiration from the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) and the XPRIZE Foundation. As a legacy donor, he supports the AKDN’s fundamental objective to improve the quality of human life through a variety of agencies working in the fields of economic development, education, healthcare, and cultural enrichment. As a member of the XPRIZE Vision Circle, Nabyl joins Larry Page, Sergey Brin, Ratan Tata, and other global business leaders to contribute thought leadership and funds for XPRIZE’s large-scale global incentive competitions that crowdsource solutions to the world’s grand challenges.

Nabyl is also fascinated by space, and is excited to pursue space travel and other space projects that line up with his MTP. His other interests span fitness, music, sneakers and fashion. As a father of 2, Nabyl enjoys inspiring his kids to pursue their passions.

Do you have a favorite quote that inspires and guides your journey?

An important lesson to always remember is that, everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face. Former world heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson was famous for saying this. It’s a significant lesson, and also a good reminder of the importance of developing your own personal MTP so that you know your North Star whenever professional or personal challenges knock you off your feet.

Tell us a little bit about your journey and how you ended up on this career path? 

From a young age, I’ve always forged my own path forward that’s been informed by an understanding of the power of technology. Over the years, I began to see how computing power democratized, and continues to democratize access and information. In the early 90s, Apple released a product called the Newton. It looked like something out of Star Trek. The moment I saw that device, bolstered by my previous introduction to technology and an early understanding of seeing human potential in everyone, I knew immediately that the future had arrived, and I needed to be involved somehow in the transformation that technology could bring. My focus is to reach my personal massive transformative purpose of creating incorruptible wealth and abundant ecosystems for all across the universe.

Which exponential technologies are bound to have the greatest impact on industries and daily life?

Exponential Technologies such as AI, machine learning, synthetic biology and drones have been made possible as a result of increased computing power. These technologies are evolving every single value chain in every single industry, bar none. Key industries that are so tied in to our day-to-day lives such as health, transportation and insurance are 3 key examples. Digital transformation in value chains across the health industry, including healthcare delivery outside the hospital, are changing how we think about health, the oldest car companies are investing heavily in autonomous vehicles to create multimodal transportation realities, and traditional insurance companies are leveraging the use of drone tech and machine learning to completely change how a centuries-old model operates.
