Carlos Escobar is a successful Senior Executive with more than a decade of experience in building corporate value and leading sophisticated international financial services organizations. In his previous role as CEO for KawaPACE, he was responsible for launching a new company to originate and fund Commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy (C-PACE) projects across the United States. Prior to KawaPACE, Carlos was the President of ExpoCredit Financial Group a financial services organization with over $200 million in annual revenues but with its core operations in Bogota, Colombia. Previously, Carlos was the Vice President of Marketing Operations and Product Management for Western & Southern Financial Group in Cincinnati, Ohio. In addition to his MBA from Duke University, Carlos has a Masters in Chemical Engineering from Cornell University and a Bachelors of Science in Chemical Engineering from Lafayette College in Easton, PA.

Do you have a favorite quote that inspires and guides your journey?

I came upon the following quote from Jean Paul Sartre when I was a teenager: "Man is nothing else but that which he makes of himself" Without getting into the controversies of the philosophy of existentialism, I found this specific quotation in isolation to be very empowering and inspirational. Even these many years later I still find the notion that I'm in control of who I am and that my actions and deeds are what really define who I am to myself and others. This sense of purpose and desire to excel is a strong driver for me. Furthermore, I find that the advances in connecting people around the globe are allowing more and more people to have even greater impact on others throughout the world and really enhancing what they "are making of themselves."

What do you see as Rokk3r’s role in the future of the world’s technology and business landscape?

I see Rokk3r playing a leading role in the technology and business landscape especially in Latin American and other emerging markets. The knowledge and expertise gained over the last 8 years combined with its extensive network of entrepreneurs and technologists and strong reputation in Latin America, will position the Company as an influential player in the region to create and foster exponential organizations. The evolution of Rokk3r over the last few years of conducting Think Phases and creating small start-ups to developing Venture Builders and larger joint venture type-projects, will allow the Company to be even more influential and grow even faster.

How do global turbulences such as COVID-19, geopolitical instability and the climate crisis affect innovation and innovation infrastructure?

As the old saying goes: "Necessity is the mother of invention," I believe that the great challenges that humanity faces brings out the best in us in finding solutions and developing technologies to address them. The entire process of innovation and putting new ideas into action has been truly accelerated thanks to the high level of connectivity around the world and our ability to truly harness the global collective genius. I have a great deal of faith in humanity's creativity and ingenuity and how it has proven throughout history to resolve and alleviate the world's most pressing challenges and threats.
